These are a few of my Favourite Things … Makeup Edition

I’m a mummy, first and foremost … but I’m also a 30 year old woman who sometimes gets forgotten about when it comes to who I look after. I’ve always loved makeup and I’m actually not bad at applying it, I do a lot of friends makeup when they have special occasions and I even did my friends wedding makeup and bridesmaid on her big day.
As a woman I enjoy getting dressed up and makeup is a big part of that, it helps us express ourselves and explore our looks and style.
So with that I’ve put together a few of my personal favorites … this was very hard as I swap and change quite a lot so I’ve tried to keep it to two products or less per product (except the lipsticks I just couldn’t do it)

Its all About that Base

Nars, Sheer Glow in Medium 4 Barcelona.

Dior, Forever in 030

Nars, Creamy Concealer in Vanilla

Clinique, Chubby Stick Sculpting Contour in 01

For my base I like a glowy, natural look, I like to see my skin through the products but also like them to be build-able for the times I need extra coverage. I find the Nars Sheer Glow and Dior Forever foundations just get this right. They give medium coverage that is build-able if needed but still allow skin to look like skin. I also add Clinique chubby stick to the contours of my face to give my face more shape and depth. I suffer with dark circles and need a concealer daily, the Nars creamy concealer has the best coverage I’ve found and doesn’t sink into any lines or crease throughout the day.

Bronze, Highlight and Blush

Nars, Laguna Bronzer

Estee Lauder, Pure Colour Blush in Peach Passion Shimmer

Iconic, Illuminator in Original

The Balm, Mary-lou Manizer

When my base is right its time to bronze, I like to use the Nars Laguna Bronzer to deepen my contour and sweep over the places the sun would normally hit for a bronzed look. I love this bronzer as it has no orange undertones so it doesn’t make me look like I have slapped my face with fake colour (even though I have) and gives me a natural bronzed look.

Blush … something I use very sparingly, I hate the slapped cheek look where blush is totally over used, it reminds me of the 80’s extreme look that I think needs to be left in the 80’s! Instead I prefer a subtle flushed glow on the apples of my cheeks and up to my temples to lift the look of my face and make my skin look more awake.

Now onto my favorite part of the make up process … HIGHLIGHT! I love it, go high or go home I say. After contorting, my face needs a lift and that’s where this baby comes in. The Iconic Illuminator is my best friend for giving my skin the most amazing glow. You can mix it with your foundation for a allover pick me up or you can dab it onto the high points on your face like cheek bones, end of nose, cupids bow and brow bone. Over the top of this I will dust some Mary-lou Manizer to give it an extra pop. Highlight just wakes up your face and can give you cheekbones to die for.

Urban Decay, Naked Ultimate Basics Pallet

Benefit, Precisely, my Brow Pencil in 4

Too Faced, Better than Sex Mascara in Black

Anastasia, Dipbrow Pomade in Taupe

Brows have become one on the most important features on your face in the last few years, they can literally change your whole face when done right (or wrong). I’ve had my brows microbladed and have them waxed and tinted every 3-4 weeks to keep them in the best condition, but sometimes we all need a little bit of help to fill them in and the Anastasia dipbrow is my favorite thing to use for this it glides on with ease and can create a strong brow. The Benefit, Precisely, my Brow Pencil is perfect for day to day use when you only need to fill in sparse sections of your brow the tip on the pencil is very thin and creates hair like strokes for a natural look. Both these brow products last all day without touch ups on me.

I’ve fallen in love with eye shadow pallets lately and found it so hard to choose from my collection, I chose the Urban Decay Naked Ultimate Basic Pallet as its my go to daily pallet I reach for. The colours are stunning and the pay off is amazing. The pigment in the Urban Decay pallets is second to non and lasts all day and night! This pallet is full of 12 matte, neutral colours both warm and cool so it would suit all skin types. My favorite shades are Extra Bitter (burnt orange) and Faith (light brown) although I use every single colour from this pallet which is rare. The eye shadows blend like a dream and really do stay put.

I like my lashes to look full and fluttery, I have LVL treatment on my lashes every 6 weeks to curl them and make them and tint them, but we all need a little extra help from mascara. The one I’m obsessed with at the moment is the Too Faced Better than Sex Mascara, I find it opens up my eyes and really gives my lases the lift and volume they need. It also doesn’t clump and holds all day.

Lipsticks … I just couldn’t pick one or two favorites so I have grouped my favorite nudes and my favorite reds and corals to show you a few of my go to lip colours. I think lipstick can bring together a whole make up look. On a day to day basis I like to wear nudes which I like to have a brown undertone or a mauve pink colour. For more daring looks I love a strong red or a dark brown coloured lip, a classic red lip can finish off a whole outfit.

Manda xx
