Now this was hard to decide on my interior favourites … really hard. In life interiors are one of my great loves and I enjoy the comforts of home. I have put together the next edition of ‘These are a Few of my Favourite Things’ and it’s all about the home.
So here we are at the end of September, I hear the cries of the summer lovers as the long days slip away, and I feel the excitement in my heart that its Autumn! Autumn is my favourite season bar none and I adore this time of year when it creeps in. When I wake up in the morning and its dark and cold outside I love turning on the lamps, the string lights and getting my cosy slippers on to get my morning cup of tea. I love to feel warm and cosy in our house when its cold outside, this season makes me feel grateful for all that we have, and excited for all that is to come. (I told you I really love Autumn) so prepare yourselves for this post and all its Autumn glory.
‘I’ve got too many candles, said no one ever.’
Candles … you all know how much I love a candle. Lately I’m all about the warm, spiced smells. I’ve picked a few of my go to candles for this time of year, they all make me feel cosy and fill my home with the most amazing scents.
• M of W.G. – White Pumpkin
This beautiful little pot of love, is just the perfect pumpkin candle. I’ve been searching for the right balance of pumpkin and warmth but not that overwhelming sickly smell some pumpkin candles hold, and I have found it with this candle. I get notes of sandalwood, ginger and delicate cooked pumpkin with vanilla undertones. It is a very warming scent and the high gloss white jar with its wooden lid fit perfectly in my living room.
• Soul Candles – Nero
I always get comments from visitors when this candle is lit. It’s a gorgeous 3 wicked candle hand poured and set in a high gloss black glass jar, it really makes a statement. I have this candle in my kitchen and even unlit it gives off an amazing scent, my kitchen and family room is a large space to fill and when lit this candle easily does that. I get notes of Ho wood oil, Ylang Ylang and Bergamot with undertones of clary sage. A must have for every home. (www.soulcandles.co.uk)
• Jo Malone- Pine and Eucalyptus
I do love my Jo Malone candles, pomegranate Noir being a firm favourite, but I got this one as a gift from my mum and the scent is just beautiful. I will admit it took me awhile to light it but when I did it filled my house with the most perfect but different Autumn scent. It’s quite a festive scent I get notes of pine and eucalyptus (obviously) also cardamom with undertones of spiced cinnamon. Housed in the iconic glass jar with silver lid these candles complement any room. (www.jomalone.co.uk)
• Glade – Apple Cinnamon Wax Melts
For years this scent appears in my home at this time of year, whether it’s a candle, plug in or melts. This year it’s the melts (and plug in). As soon these melts warm up they give off the most amazing Christmassy … (yep I said it) smell like no other. With notes of cinnamon, spiced apple and nutmeg this scent always takes me back to my childhood at Christmas as my mum always filled our house with these in the candle form … she is who I blame for my obsession for this smell, it makes me feel happy and homely. ‘Welcome to the Milburn’s’
My next favorite is this frame I had made from the lovely Abby at So Simply Darling (Instagram – @sosimplydarling web page www.sosimplydarling.etsy.com) I have it in my hall and adore everything about it, it finishes the decor in the hall perfectly! The quality is amazing and the postage was so quick. I will definitely be reordering.
Pumpkins are my weakness, I love them in all colors, shapes and sizes. My favorite decorative pumpkins this year are these beauties. The larger orange one is from HomeSense it’s such a statement with its orange shimmery color and large size. My wreath is also from HomeSense.
My mini fabric pumpkins I had made by the lovely Rebecca at Annie & Wilf (Instagram – @annie_and_wilf, web page – www.annieandwilf.co.uk) when I saw these little handmade pumpkins I had to get some, so I ordered a white and a grey. The delivery was really quick and the quality is amazing, being handmade too they are both exactly what I was wanting. I love how versatile they are completing any styling display I need, and bringing my much loved Autumn feeling into the house.
‘Music is the Key to the Soul’
I got my Roberts radio for my birthday, it’s been on my most wanted list for as long as I can remember. Since receiving it it’s become a must have in our kitchen/family room. Having the DAB is so easy to find our perfect channels. We love music in our house and you will find this on in the background most days. I love how stylish it looks with its cream leather casing and gold hardware. It fits into our home like it was made for us. (www.robertsradio.com)
‘Let there be Light’
Our boys share a room and have bunkbeds. They each have their own shelves attached to the bunkbeds and I’ve recently found these funky lights for them to have next to their beds. With the dark nights coming in they have started getting more scared of the dark so having these battery lights by their beds is perfect for them to control if they feel scared. Toby has the cloud light which we found on one of my favorite online shops Sophia Rose Interiors (Instagram – @sophiaroseinteriors, web page – www.sophiaroseinteriors.co.uk)
The arrow light we found in our local garden center Cherry Hill Garden Center.
‘Autumn, Autumn, Autumn’
So, anything that looks cozy and warm or autumnal is a favorite with me, lanterns, throws and tiny lights on string all cover my home, but I’ve picked out a few little bits that make my Autumn (how many times can one blog post have Autumn wrote in it … the prize goes to … this one.) The owl I have hanging from my radiator was from HomeSense last year, I love how quirky he is. I am also loving my ‘Let’s stay home’ frame that I made myself, I wish we could stay home and snuggle up every day! The star is a tea light holder from The Range, when its lit up it looks stunning through the mottled glass but also looks beautiful unlit as a decorative star.
‘Plants make a Home’
This year I have really been loving house plants, I’ve introduced some in every room including this large bamboo tree in the family room. The corner it’s in was bare and cried out for something extra, we found this at Ikea and its perfect it gives life to a once boring corner and completes the family room. I’m also in love with our hanging ivy in the bathroom … it’s not real ivy, that’s from The Range. I put this together myself using a plant pot from Ikea and some garden string. I adore how it ended up and again its finished our bathroom off perfectly.
I hope you enjoyed reading about a few of my favorite things for our home and reading the word Autumn 10,000 times (had to put it once more for luck).
I would love to hear about some of the things you are loving at the minute in your homes.
